Professional gaming chairs are much better suited for long gaming sessions than normal office chairs. They often offer a wider seat and armrests, and good models can also be individually adjusted to the gamer’s personal needs and are ergonomically shaped. What should you look for when choosing a good gaming chair?
The right chair for gamers
As a real gamer, you naturally need a suitable gaming chair. These chairs not only look different from conventional office chairs, but are also usually a bit more comfortable. They also offer good ergonomics. There are very inexpensive models, but also expensive gaming chairs that are even equipped with some extras. However, not every chair suits you, so we explain below what you should look for when choosing your gaming chair.
What is a good gaming chair?
Every body is different, which is why you should choose a chair that fits your individual anatomy. The most important factors are seating comfort, operation and quality. Choose a comfortable chair, with an appropriate upholstery and make sure that it can be adjusted to your own needs. Especially the backrest, seat depth and seat height play an important role. When you first test sit, make sure that four fingers fit between the edge of the seat and your knee.
At the same time, the shell of the backrest should offer support and it is important that you completely fill the seat with your body. A particularly good model is the Backforce “One Plus”, which is currently the market leader and has many great extras. It is also essential that the chair has a seat height mechanism so that it can be adjusted to your own needs.
Armrests: what is important?
The armrests should be at the same height as the gaming table. Since every table is of course different in height, the seat and backrest should be adjustable so that the same height is achieved. In the best case, the individual components can be adjusted vertically, horizontally and inwards and outwards. After adjustment, the armrests should have as little play as possible. The finish is also important; after all, these areas are particularly subject to wear. Especially during fast games, the armrests should be fixed and not move with every action.
Lordosis: relief for the muscles
The lumbar support is particularly important for the back area and should be rotatable so that it adapts optimally to the back. Some chairs come with extra cushions that can be attached to the chair. These relieve the back muscles and ensure an ergonomic gaming experience. This way, you can gamble for a long time without complaining about back pain.
Which material is optimal?
If the chair is made of non-permeable plastic, the heat accumulates and you will have a sweaty back after some time. This is not only unpleasant for the player, but in the long run it also damages the material. A permeable fabric cover heats up less quickly and the rough fabric provides additional support. Imitation leather is also a possibility, as it allows air and moisture to pass through easily and does not heat up at the same time.
Tips for correct seating behaviour
No matter how good the chair, if you sit slouched and crooked, the ergonomics won’t do you any good. Therefore, sit on the chair at a 90 degree angle and choose a comfortable sitting position. Your back and thighs as well as your upper and lower legs should form a 90 degree angle. More is allowed for the knee joint, values around 110 degrees are much more comfortable.
Take breaks and move around from time to time; sitting in the same position over a long period of time is generally very unhealthy. After about an hour you should get up and walk for a short while or do some stretching exercises. Also rest your arms straight, they should create a straight line from the armrests to the desk.
Design vs. function: the best gaming chair
With all its ergonomic features, the gaming chair should of course also always look good; after all, it is a lifestyle product. Only if it also looks good can a nice gamer’s corner be created. Many models have convincing integrated LEDs or even their own sound system.
